Joint effort keeps California airport open

Local pilots and AOPA working together to protect Oceanside Airport from closure led to a 3-2 vote by the city council to keep the airport open. Local area residents and the city council had an eye on closing the airport since last fall. ASN volunteer Art Sternberg alerted AOPA to the Oceanside issue, and the association immediately contacted the mayor. "With airports facing more restriction and outright closures every day, this victory clearly shows what a committed community group of pilots can accomplish, particularly when they work in coordination with the national organization," said Anne Esposito, AOPA vice president of airports.
