The Department of Homeland Security on Friday lowered the national terrorist threat level back to yellow, or "elevated." AOPA Vice President of Air Traffic Policy Melissa Bailey says that will mostly affect pilots in the Washington, D.C., area as restrictions are eased.
"The FAA has issued a notam canceling the requirement that pilots at the DC-3 airports (College Park, Washington Executive/Hyde Field, and Potomac) use a gateway facility, effective at 1800 local," said Bailey. "They have also reinstated waivers for pilots operating in the National Capital Region (SFAR 94) and waivers to the sporting events notam, effective at the same time."
