New York pilot is quarterly winner of ASF door prize, a Sporty's handheld transceiver

AOPA member Stuart Cohen of Albany, N.Y., is 2003's third-quarter winner of a Sporty's handheld transceiver, the door prize for attending an AOPA Air Safety Foundation seminar. He attended ASF's "Say Intentions...When You Need ATC's Help." Information on when it will be coming to your area is available online. ASF and Sporty's award one door prize each quarter.

Cohen's name was drawn from the thousands of people who attended ASF safety seminars during the quarter.

Many VFR pilots have little experience talking to air traffic controllers and may not realize how valuable a resource ATC can be. "Say Intentions" teaches pilots how ATC can assist during normal and emergency situations, the truth behind common flight-assist myths, and which resources ATC uses for assisting both VFR and IFR pilots. Seminar leaders use a videotape showing recreations of actual situations and discussions with controllers about flight assists to help lead the discussions.
