Plain language

After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, numerous temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) have been established for security reasons. Pilots must check all notams during their flight planning. TFRs change continuously and new ones are being created frequently. But what if you don't understand the notam? AOPA's plain language guidance will help. Following the posted official notam on the AOPA Web site ( www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams.html) you'll see bright red type labeled "Plain-language guidance." AOPA's aviation specialists pare down the official language into real-world wordage. This is guidance you'll understand — and can use.

Celebrating 10 years

Since its inception in 1993, the AOPA Insurance Agency has issued more than 250,000 quotations and has grown to become the world's largest light-aircraft insurance brokerage. The AOPA Insurance Agency was responsible for the introduction of several new coverages to the market such as coverage for hand-held avionics, InflationGuard, and others that have increased the value of the AOPA member's insurance dollar. Now, under a new arrangement with AIG Aviation, AOPA members can save money on their owned and nonowned aircraft insurance. Members may qualify for a 5-percent discount on the cost of their owned aircraft insurance or a 10-percent discount at renewal on nonowned insurance. The AOPA Insurance Agency was the first to offer computerized quoting of light aircraft insurance, allowing a member to receive their quote in just minutes over the phone. The AOPA Insurance Agency was also the first to offer online quotations to members via an advanced interactive Web site.
