FAA reopens public comment on New Orleans Lakefront privatization proposal

May 12, 2004 - The FAA has, in a highly unusual move, reopened the comment period for a pending proposal to privatize New Orleans Lakefront Airport (NEW). Under the proposal, American Airports Corporation (AAC) would be allowed to assume control of the airport under an FAA Privatization Pilot Program. Three documents, including answers to questions from the FAA (several that were raised by AOPA), agreements between AAC and the New Orleans Levee Board, and other information not previously made available to the public are being released. They've been posted on the U.S. Department of Transportation's online Document Management System (DMS). To see them, or to file comments, visit the online DMS, click on "Simple Search," and enter docket number 14246. AOPA filed comments during the original comment period, strongly opposing AAC's proposal, and is currently evaluating the new filings. Public comments will be accepted until May 28, 2004.
