June 9, 2004 - More than 200 pilots and aviation enthusiast participated in the Tarkio (Missouri) Fly-In on Saturday, June 5. AOPA's Vice President of Legislative Affairs Jon Hixson was on-hand for discussion on aviation policy. "As chairman of the Small Business subcommittee, Rep. Graves serves an important role in protecting general aviation in our nation's economy," explained Hixson. "It is great to have such a strong and reliable advocate for general aviation in Congress."

NASA test pilot and flight engineer Mark Pestana served as the keynote speaker for the event, highlighting the role of NASA research in improving the technology utilized by general aviation. Forty-seven aircraft were flown in and on display at the Gould Peterson Memorial Airport in Tarkio. Aircraft ranged from manufacturers' displays featuring a Cirrus Design SR22 and a New Piper SXT, to experimental aircraft, warbirds, and the congressman's own 1946 Piper Cub. The event was finished off with a flyover by two Air Force F-15s and a C-130.
