AOPA testifies in support of Aviation Advisory Board bill

AOPA Alaska Regional Representative Tom George testified last week before the Alaska Senate Transportation Committee in support of Senate Bill 133, a bill that would establish a state Aviation Advisory Board within the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. Introduced on behalf of Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski, the purpose of the board is to advise and provide recommendations to the commissioner on public policy. In a letter to the department, George noted that, "Given the huge role that aviation plays in the transportation system of Alaska, it is vital to have a forum for the aviation community to provide input on policy and management issues to the department." The bill was passed out of the Transportation Committee and will next be taken up in the Senate's Finance Committee.
