AOPA has offered to help Pennsylvania government officials promote security at the state's general aviation airports through efforts that include AOPA's Airport Watch program. AOPA Vice President of Regional Affairs Roger Cohen and Eastern Regional Representative Bill Leavens met with state legislators, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Allen Biehler, and other government officials Tuesday during the fourth annual Pennsylvania Aviation Advocacy Day in Harrisburg.

Pennsylvania Aviation Council members learned that several legislators had inquired about the status of security at the state's airports, and AOPA used the opportunity to discuss the association's Airport Watch program. AOPA pledged to help with any educational efforts.

The AOPA representatives told Deputy Secretary for Aviation Sharon Daboin and Rick Harner, director of the Bureau of Aviation, about past association efforts in other states, including Airport Watch promotions in Massachusetts, Tennessee, and New Jersey.

"Pennsylvania has a professional Bureau of Aviation staff, and AOPA looks forward to working with them, Gov. Edward Rendell's administration, and the Pennsylvania General Assembly on a variety of general aviation issues," Cohen said.
