Port Authority nixes rate increases for light GA at Teterboro
GA pilots who fly aircraft weighing 6,000 pounds or less at Teterboro Airport (TEB) in New Jersey will pay the same flight fees on January 1, 2006, as they do now - $15. That's because the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns and operates TEB, decided to exempt aircraft weighing 6,000 pounds or less from its proposed 50-percent increase in fees for all aircraft weighing 12,500 pounds or less. The increase will apply only to aircraft over 6,000 pounds.
"The Port Authority has recognized that light GA aircraft have a minimal impact on the airport and that increasing light GA aircraft fees by 50 percent didn't make sense," said Roger Cohen, AOPA vice president of regional affairs. "AOPA is pleased that the Port Authority listened to local AOPA members and airport users - those who would have to pay the fees out of their own pockets because they can't pass them on as a cost of doing business."
