AOPA, New Jersey team up to address airport issues

At a recent state-hosted meeting, representatives from AOPA headquarters, some 19 Airport Support Network (ASN) volunteers, and AOPA Eastern Regional Representative Bill Leavens joined New Jersey Aviation Director Tom Thatcher and other government officials to address cooperative ways to keep the state's airports open, affordable, and community-friendly. The second annual event also dealt with finding effective ways to implement security measures like fencing, gates, and AOPA's Airport Watch Program. "Thanks to the teamwork of AOPA and officials at the local level, issues faced by one airport now might be averted or reconciled more quickly at other airports across the state," said AOPA ASN Director Stacy Platone. ASN volunteers work with local AOPA members, pilots, and government officials to protect and preserve airports in their area from detrimental regulations and encroachment.
