AOPA fights Ohio town plan to restrict banner towing
AOPA has asked the FAA to intervene after the town of Brunswick, Ohio, approved an ordinance over the association's objections that restricts banner towing. In a letter sent to Brunswick officials on Monday, AOPA reminded the town that the FAA is responsible for the federal airspace system - authority that can't be preempted by local legislation. The letter also advised town leaders of the economic hardship that the proposed legislation would impose on banner towing businesses. But the arguments weren't enough to dissuade the town's committee-of-the-whole, which adopted restrictions on banner towing. AOPA has now turned to the FAA for help, asking the agency to remind town leaders that only it has the authority to regulate airspace.
