Visitors to the AOPA tent at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh have been jumping at the opportunity to fly the 2005 AOPA Commander Countdown Sweepstakes airplane. But the grand prize, a beautifully refurbished Commander 112A, remained tied down securely in front of the tent - they "flew" an add-on to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, developed for AOPA by Flight1 Software.
Here are some of the comments we overheard:
"Wow, this is so cool!"
"I've never seen anything like this before."
"When Phil brings me the airplane in February, I'll be ready to fly it!"
The software can be downloaded for free by AOPA members. Please note that you must have Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 in order to fly the virtual Commander - it will not operate by itself. For more information, see the Web page.
