The Senate has easily confirmed Edmund "Kip" Hawley as head of the Transportation Security Administration.
Hawley received support from both political parties in Friday's vote, and many lawmakers have expressed hope that he will reinvigorate the agency.
Even before the confirmation, AOPA President Phil Boyer had begun talking with Hawley, including a telephone conversation in which they discussed the needs and value of general aviation.
"We look forward to working with Mr. Hawley and educating him about GA, as we have his predecessors," said Boyer. "AOPA has developed positive working relationships with past TSA heads and won their support for important programs like AOPA's Airport Watch. We'll continue to do all we can to ensure that security issues affecting GA are handled with common sense and the recognition that one size does not fit all."
