Oregon looks at using lottery proceeds for aviation

AOPA is applauding a move in the Oregon legislature that would provide a new stream of funding for the state's aeronautical and airport projects. At Gov. Theodore Kulongoski's request, Senate Bill 71 was introduced to authorize the issuance of lottery bonds. The proceeds would then be deposited into a special account to fund various transportation projects. "We applaud your administration's recognition of the necessity of including aviation projects among those to be funded and strongly encourage the Oregon Transportation Commission, in their selections, to include projects at Oregon's general aviation airports," said AOPA President and native Oregonian Phil Boyer in a recent letter to the governor.
