AOPA Air Safety Foundation online courses

Weathered out by winter's worst? No need to set aside your training just because the sun isn't shining. The AOPA Air Safety Foundation wants to help you keep proficient and safe, even when you can't fly. An online course is a good way to sharpen your flying skills in any kind of weather, since you're doing it all at home. You can sign on at your leisure, day or night, so it's convenient -- and free!

ASF offers a number of online courses for pilots of all levels. Say Intentions gives hands-on training in flight assists, a critical ATC tool for pilots who encounter problems during a flight. The Runway Safety Program tests your knowledge of airport signs and markings. Know Before You Go covers critical developments in airspace regulations. SkySpotter teaches you how to give pilot weather reports, or pireps. And the new Mission: Possible shows you how to deal with military lights-out training, now being conducted in select military operations areas around the country. Two other courses are intended for instrument students and pilots: IFR Adventure, which lets you experience a realistic IFR flight as you learn about the regulations; and Single-Pilot IFR, an amusing, interactive way to improve your flying when you're alone in the soup.

Once you successfully complete a course, you'll receive a certificate from the AOPA Air Safety Foundation. What's more, each online course satisfies the safety seminar requirement of the FAA Wings Pilot Proficiency Award program. You'll find links to all of the courses online.
