National Park Service sets meetings on Denali plan

National Park Service sets meetings on Denali plan

The National Park Service has scheduled a series of public meetings about its revised Denali Backcountry Management Plan. AOPA and Alaska pilots didn't like the first version because the Park Service's preferred alternative banned GA aircraft from landing anywhere in the 1.5 million-acre area that makes up the Old Park portion of Denali National Park. Based on an initial assessment, the new plan seems to have mitigated AOPA's concerns. The meetings are scheduled from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. starting June 8 at the Community Hall, in Cantwell; June 9, Alaska Public Lands Information Center, Anchorage; June 13, Upper Sustina Valley Senior Center, Talkeetna/Trapper Creek; June 14, Tri-Valley Community Center, Healy; and June 15, Noel Wien Library, Fairbanks.
