When the Commander Owners Group gathered in Sedona, Arizona, for their eighth annual fly-in over the weekend, they had two VIP guests - AOPA President Phil Boyer and the AOPA Commander Countdown sweepstakes airplane.
Boyer spent a day and a half visiting with members of the owners group, while they admired the better-than-new sweepstakes airplane. Boyer also took the opportunity to make his first flight in the sweepstakes airplane. After a briefing from AOPA Associate Editor Steven W. Ells, the project manager for refurbishing and updating the Commander, Boyer taxied onto Sedona's Runway 21 and took off for a half-hour flight around the area before returning for a landing on Sedona's airport, which is located on a flat-topped mesa above one of the West's most scenic towns.
The 2005 AOPA Sweepstakes Commander can be seen next at the 2005 AOPA Expo in Tampa, Florida, from November 3 through the 5. Register today.
