Gettysburg Airport and Travel Center in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is up for sale, and AOPA is asking the FAA to work with the association and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to find a public sponsor who would continue to operate the current privately owned, public-use facility.
"AOPA believes Gettysburg Airport is an important general aviation airport serving this historic and growing geographic area, but there is no guarantee that the buyer will continue to operate the airport," said Bill Dunn, AOPA vice president of airports. "If the airport were to be publicly sponsored and operated, it could be a significant economic engine to the local economy."
Gettysburg is an important airport to southeastern Pennsylvania and central Maryland because, unlike many airports in the area, it is not adversely affected by expanded prohibited airspace surrounding the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland.
