People typically shy away when a squad car is on patrol, but when it's AOPA's surPRIZE Squad, members are quick to wave down the crew to point out they are wearing their yellow AOPA sticker.
That's because each day at Sun 'n Fun, AOPA is giving away prizes including an AOPA mug, beach towel, cooler, flight simulator, and Air Safety Foundation Maneuvering Flight DVD.
Some were still leery though. AOPA member Bill Beckman of Nashville, Tennessee, tried to get away from the surPRIZE Squad. But even when he realized he wasn't in trouble, he was still in shock: "I've never won anything," he said.
Bob Maraowski, an AOPA member since 1967 from Connecticut, won the cooler. And his son, John, already has plans for it: stick it in the back of his dad's Cessna 177RG for a weekend trip.
If you're headed down for AOPA Day on Friday, be sure to get a free AOPA sticker. The grand prize that day is a Garmin 396 handheld GPS. See the official rules. But if you can't make it, mark June 3 on your calendar for the AOPA Fly-In in Frederick, Maryland. We'll be giving another one away that day.
