The desire to restrict general aviation for "security reasons" still hasn't abated in some quarters, and misconceptions still exist with some officials. That's why AOPA continues to actively demonstrate the effectiveness of cooperative, voluntary airport security practices, particularly AOPA's Airport Watch Program. Earlier this week, AOPA staffers Owen Sweeney, manager of state and local government affairs, and Rob Hackman, manager of regulatory and certification affairs, met with the chairmen of the Pennsylvania Senate and House transportation committees and other state legislators to explain airport security and Airport Watch with it's new "Lock up - Look out" slogan. "It is imperative that now more then ever all pilots and aircraft owners should be following the commonsense practice of securing aircraft by utilizing existing door and hangar locks or explore other alternatives if these options do not exist," said Hackman.
