AOPA works hard to ensure that you are not one of these pilots. That's why your AOPA membership includes numerous resources to help you plan for and avoid TFRs and other restricted areas.
For example, AOPA's Real-Time Flight Planner shows you a graphic depiction of every TFR and restricted area along your route, and lets you rubberband your route to avoid those areas. The Real-Time Flight Planner, developed in partnership with Jeppesen, is one of our most popular member benefits, and understandably so--its many features make planning a cross-country flight easier and safer.
Even before notices to airmen are issued, we publish information about anticipated TFRs on AOPA Online so that you can ask the flight service briefer when you call to file a flight plan.
Subscribers to AOPA's electronic newsletters get advance notice in the form of airspace bulletins delivered directly to their e-mail inboxes. Each airspace bulletin typically includes detailed information on the size and scope of the TFR, the dates and times for which it will be active, and a link to the notam and a graphic depiction of the TFR available on AOPA Online. If you don't receive AOPA ePilot or AOPA ePilot Flight Training Edition, sign up at AOPA Online. You must be a full AOPA member to receive airspace bulletins; members enrolled in the six-month complimentary AOPA Flight Training membership are eligible for ePilot Flight Training Edition but will not receive airspace bulletins--so be sure to check AOPA Online for the relevant information.
