AOPA maintains relationships in California legislature

AOPA's Manager of State and Local Government Affairs Owen Sweeney and California Regional Representative John Pfeifer visited Sacramento last week to keep member concerns in the forefront of the minds of legislators and key committee staffers. Sweeney and Pfeifer discussed several GA issues including bolstering protection of GA airports via improved land-use policy, and increasing funding for airport improvements (GA contributes tens of millions in tax revenue annually to the state yet receives back only a small percentage). "John has done a tremendous job of representing AOPA in our largest member state," said Sweeney. "Our issues are not typically 'front page,' so it is crucial to maintain relationships in the capitol and continually remind key government players of the benefits of supporting a healthy state general aviation system."
