AOPA supports Mississippi tax exemption bills

AOPA has sent letters in support of legislation introduced in the Mississippi legislature that would exempt aircraft repairs and servicing from the state's sales tax. "The lighter general aviation airplanes our members fly are greater in number than all other aircraft, and this new pool of customers would increase significantly the amount of aircraft repair business conducted in Mississippi," AOPA wrote in letters to committee chairmen. "Indeed, to stay competitive, many states across the country have adopted similar policies and experienced an increase in aviation-related economic activity. Moreover, with more customers, aviation businesses will be able to provide many highly skilled, well- paying jobs, generating broad tax and social benefits statewide." The bills have been referred respectively to the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means committees.
