Miami-Dade County decides to close airport

Over objections from AOPA and local pilots, the Miami-Dade County Aviation Department has decided to close Opa-Locka West Airport. The airport had been under federal grant obligations until 1989. The county declined to apply for more grants after they expired. Had the airport been under grant obligations, there would have been more leverage to keep the airport open.
