Better GA airports for rural Georgia

Georgia Gov. (and AOPA member) Sonny Perdue has announced a new program to improve air transportation in the state. AirGeorgia (Airport Initiative in Rural Georgia) will start with a $15 million budget to begin improving and upgrading many of rural Georgia's airports. "The goal of AirGeorgia is to extend rural airport runways to at least 5,000 feet, placing every Georgian within a 30-minute drive of an airport capable of serving 85 percent of the corporate aircraft flying today," said Gov. Perdue. AirGeorgia will accelerate a number of projects including runway extensions, installation of navigational aids and weather reporting stations, and other projects to improve air access to Georgia communities.
