Traditional or edgy? What kind of paint scheme would you choose for the Cherokee Six, this year's AOPA "Win a Six in '06" Sweepstakes airplane?

AOPA Pilot Editor at Large Tom Horne and Craig Barnett from Scheme Designers, the company that has designed a half-dozen of AOPA's sweeps aircraft, gave AOPA members at Sun 'n Fun an inside peek into how the designs for the Six were selected and narrowed from 11 to one.

Members engaged in a lively debate, defending their reasoning for the design they thought was the winner. But it was only after a process of elimination (and a little coaching) that 10-year AOPA member Barbara James of Easton, Pennsylvania, guessed the correct design.

The winner? It's a conservative look with modern flare - white on top with a dark blue metallic belly, black metallic and yellow stripes, and a silver swoosh of pewter gray metallic.

Scheme Designers is using DuPont paint on the Cherokee, and it will be ready to sport its new colors this summer at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Follow the progress of the Cherokee's restoration online.
