AOPA to fight background check law in New York

AOPA is preparing a lawsuit against the state of New York to overturn the onerous background check law. Meanwhile, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services has posted guidance on how it will begin implementing the New York flight school student applicant background check law that went into effect last week. The division is still working out a number of details on how to enforce the law. The Web page, though not yet complete, contains forms for potential students to consent to a background check and for flight schools to designate an individual to receive the background check information. AOPA encourages New York members who have questions about the law to contact the division directly. A contact phone number and e-mail address are listed on the site.
