Blue Ash seeks to build airport support with aviation days
Cincinnati-Blue Ash Airport supporters are taking a new approach to preserving their airport: hosting the Blue Ash Airport Days 2006 this weekend. The goal is to attract community members to the airport for a weekend of flying and fun and ultimately to win their support for a proposal on the November 7 ballot that will help ensure the airport's future.
The proposal is to increase the earnings tax of those who work in Blue Ash by 0.25 percent. This would allow the City of Blue Ash to buy a little more than half of the airport's property from Cincinnati to develop a city park that would include a World War II aviation memorial. In return, the City of Cincinnati would continue to operate the airport and also improve the runway, reconfigure the taxiway, and relocate the hangars and airport businesses.
AOPA President Phil Boyer had met with both cities' mayors to advocate for the airport. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) will be on hand to show her support for the airport. Blue Ash Airport Days take place Saturday, September 16, and Sunday, September 17, at the airport.
