Northwest is spending more than $6 billion to renew its fleet. The Airbus A330 replaced DC-10s on European and Asian routes, and in fall 2008 it will become the first North American carrier to operate the new Boeing 787. And 72 new dual-class regional jets are entering service, operated by Northwest subsidiaries Compass Airlines and Mesaba Airlines.
Steenland said Northwest will continue its partnerships with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and the SkyTeam alliance, and domestic marketing agreements with Alaska Airlines, Continental, and Delta.
The airline's employees should receive $1.6 billion in profit sharing and unsecured claims payments through 2010, he noted.
