Airports protection bill awaits governor's signature

Public-use airports in Oregon could get a helping hand if Gov. Ted Kulongoski signs Senate Bill 139. The bill would require the sponsor of a public-use airport to provide 180 days' notice before the planned closure of the facility. During that six-month period, state and local governments, interested businesses, and other stakeholders could develop alternatives to keep the airport open. AOPA President Phil Boyer has written the governor, urging him to sign the bill.
