To conduct traffic pattern operations, follow the standard operating procedures for the Washington, D.C, ADIZ: File a D.C. ADIZ flight plan, obtain a discrete transponder code, and transmit on the Leesburg CTAF while monitoring 121.5 MHz.
If you call Potomac for a discrete transponder code for traffic pattern operations, make sure you are not given the 1226 (egress) or 1227 (ingress) code. Question the controller—you must have a discrete transponder code for traffic pattern operations.
Closed traffic pattern operations are not allowed when using the Leesburg ingress/egress procedures. See the notam for details.
All ingress/egress operations must be conducted within the maneuvering area. Do not stray into the ADIZ.
The ingress procedure of filing a D.C. ADIZ flight plan, talking on the Leesburg CTAF, and squawking 1227 can only be used if landing at the airport through the maneuvering area.
The egress procedure of filing a D.C. ADIZ flight plan, talking on the Leesburg CTAF, and squawking 1226 can only be used if the pilot is taking off from Leesburg and departing the ADIZ through the maneuvering area.
If you are following the ingress procedures for Leesburg (squawking 1227) and have to do a go-around for emergency or safety reasons, execute the go-around and land on the next pass. If you can't land on the next pass, immediately contact ATC and let them know the situation. Expect to be directed to exit the ADIZ.
