During the House aviation subcommittee hearing on March 21, Rep. Vernon Ehlers (R-Mich.) challenged the FAA's cost projections for the NextGen air traffic control modernization program. "I've served on this subcommittee 13 years," said Rep. Ehlers, "and I've noticed a considerable number of cost overruns every time the FAA introduces a new generation of equipment." During a previous hearing, Rep. Ehlers had declared the FAA funding proposal "dead on arrival." "Rep. Ehlers is an important ally in this battle," said AOPA President Phil Boyer, "and we're pleased that he's sticking up for GA pilots by voicing his opposition to the FAA's proposal."
