Join or renew and Catch-A-Cardinal

Do you dream of owning your own airplane? Does the thought of being able to one day go to the airport, open your hangar door, and see your baby inside just waiting to be flown get you a little too excited? The only thing that could possibly be better than owning your own airplane is winning it!

AOPA's annual airplane sweepstakes awards a completely refurbished, exciting, better-than-new airplane to one lucky winner. This year's AOPA Catch-A-Cardinal sweepstakes features a 1977 Cessna 177B Cardinal--think of it as the Cessna 172's sportier sister. We started with a 180-horsepower, fixed-gear (Cardinals also came as retractables), 30-year-old airplane and turned it in to one of the most capable light GA airplanes in the sky.

When it's delivered to the lucky winner early in 2008, the Cardinal will have spent a year undergoing an extensive refurbishment. This includes airframe repairs and upgrades, dual Garmin GNS430W WAAS GPS receivers, a Garmin GMX200 multifunction display, S-Tec System Fifty Five X autopilot, WX-500 Stormscope, standby vacuum system, J.P. Instruments engine analyzer, and Bendix/King KCS 55A flight control system. Included, of course, is real-time traffic and weather. Slap on a snazzy new paint job and plush new interior, and your new Cardinal is a real ramp standout.

To pass the time while you dream about your new airplane, you can fly this Cardinal from your personal computer. Flight1 Software, in partnership with AOPA, developed an add-on you can fly in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. The simulated airplane is free, it flies just like the real thing, and it offers the upgraded panel to boot. Even the paint scheme is an exact likeness.

AOPA Flight Training readers with the free six-month AOPA membership are not eligible; see the official sweepstakes rules. To be automatically entered in the sweepstakes, all you have to do is join AOPA as a paid member or renew your membership this year. Doing so entitles you to all the benefits the association brings--and it could win you an airplane.
