Watch San Diego developer deconstruct airport hazard

Deconstruction cam imageWhen the San Diego city attorney, the FAA, and the California Department of Transportation told a San Diego building developer to cut his losses, they meant literally.

You can watch the deconstruction via our Web cam as the two stories are removed off the top of the too-tall building, located less than a mile from Montgomery Field.

AOPA warned Sunroad Enterprises that threatening the safety of general aviation pilots would not be tolerated. The association and the local pilots organization, Community Airfields Association of San Diego (CAASD), which includes AOPA Airport Support Network volunteer Rick Beach, are parties to a lawsuit against Sunroad.

On June 22, San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders ordered the contractor to remove the floors because the building was a hazard to air navigation.

Future projects in this area will be scrutinized by AOPA to make sure that safety isn't compromised.
