At your aircraft's next annual or maintenance stop, you could feel it in the wallet even more. The Michigan House of Representatives will be voting soon on House Bill 5196, which would extend Michigan's sales and use tax to include services. This would significantly add to the already high cost of aircraft ownership but would only bring in less than $500,000 in revenue to the state. AOPA has written state House Speaker Andy Dillon, requesting that aviation services be exempt from the sales and use tax extension. AOPA members are urged to e-mail Dillon and contact their representative and tell them to exempt taxing aviation services.
