President Phil Boyer met with pilots at AOPA Pilot Town Meetings in San Bernardino, Newport Beach, and Oxnard during the week of May 15. More than 700 pilots attended the three meetings. Included were announcements of AOPA Airport Support Network volunteers for Apple Valley Airport (John Herrington), Orange County-John Wayne (William Lusk), and San Diego's Brown Field (Stephen Squires).

The day after the Oxnard meeting, Boyer remained for a pre-scheduled in-depth interview with the Oxnard Star and five other related Ventura County newspapers. Local pilots are very concerned about the public image and public acceptance of county airports (Santa Paula, Camarillo, Oxnard, and Pt. Mugu).

Boyer also stopped by Santa Maria to visit with Cessna Pilots Association (CPA) head John Frank. AOPA and CPA recently worked together to successfully challenge a proposed FAA direct rulemaking on turbocharged twin Cessna exhaust systems. The drastic action, mandating an onerous and costly airworthiness directive, was not supported by FAA data.
