Rebates to AOPA members on FBO aviation purchases exceed $3 million in less than three years

Rebates to AOPA members on FBO aviation purchases exceed $3 million in less than three years

AOPA members have now earned credit card rebates of more than $3 million on their purchases of fuel, aircraft rentals, maintenance, and other purchases at qualified FBOs under AOPA's FBO Rebate Program.

Nearly 113,000 rebates have been issued by MBNA America Bank to AOPA members who applied for a rebate after using an AOPA Mastercard or Visa for purchases at qualifying FBOs. Qualifying FBOs are simply those that sell fuel or rent aircraft, as indicated by the 3% icon in AOPA's Airport Directory.

Since the program began in August 1997, AOPA members have received credits on their monthly credit card statements totaling $3.307 million, or an average of about $30 on each statement claiming a rebate.

Some 20,000 AOPA members have received a rebate among the more than 120,000 members who carry an AOPA Mastercard or Visa. The average rebate in just one month nearly equals the annual $39 cost of AOPA membership.

The program is funded by MBNA America Bank and not by AOPA, AOPA member dues, or the FBOs. It returns 3 percent of the cost of qualifying purchases as a credit on the cardholder's next monthly statement. AOPA members need only highlight eligible purchases on their monthly statement and submit it by mail or fax to a special address or fax number at MBNA Bank.
