Pilots flying with an IFR GPS will soon have an easier way to get around Georgia’s Bulldog MOA complex. Beginning June 5, pilots will be able to file flight plans for T-209, a GPS-based route that offers more direct north-south routing for GA aircraft transitioning through the Augusta, Ga., area. The FAA issued the final rule despite objections from the U.S. Air Force, which was concerned that the new route would interfere with a proposed expansion of the Bulldog MOA. In its ruling creating T-209, the FAA noted that no decision had yet been made about the Bulldog MOA proposal. The final route also differs slightly from the original proposal, with the NASDE waypoint moved 4.2 miles to the west. AOPA has supported the creation of T-routes for over a decade.
