Blue Ash takes first step toward revitalization

The city of Cincinnati has filed a “pre-application” for close to $9 million in federal grant funds, marking the first step toward ensuring the future of Blue Ash Airport (ISZ).
The airport, which is located in the city of Blue Ash but owned and operated by the city of Cincinnati, has been under threat of closure for years. But intervention from AOPA and airport supporters led the two cities to strike a deal, promising to protect the airport and build a park, aviation museum, and other community facilities nearby.
Applying for federal grant money is the first step toward realizing those plans, but the process could be slowed down by the ongoing battle over the future of FAA funding, including money for the airport improvement program.
“This process is still in the early stages, but it’s a good start,” said AOPA Vice President of Local Advocacy Bill Dunn. “The two cities are working cooperatively and are committed to the airport.”
In the meantime, the city of Blue Ash has promised to contribute about $2 million for airport improvements, money that will be needed to match federal funds.
