If you require a special issuance medical, there’s a good chance Dr. Warren Silberman, manager of the FAA’s aerospace medical certification division in Oklahoma City, Okla., will be involved at some level. To thank Silberman for his hard work in ensuring that medically qualified pilots get their medical certificates and his dedication to aviation safety, AOPA presented him with a citation Dec. 2.
Not only does Silberman work for pilots day in and day out, he even makes special trips to help pilots complete the certification process. Silberman recently attended AOPA Expo, giving pilots requiring special issuance medicals the opportunity to submit their paperwork for review in advance of the show and, in some cases, issuing long-awaited medicals on the spot.
While AOPA staff members were in Oklahoma City to honor Silberman, they took the opportunity to address other issues of interest to pilots, including a proposal that would require re-registration of all aircraft in the general aviation fleet.
