AOPA Services

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association is general aviation's advocate and the largest, most influential aviation association in the world. Its membership of more than 414,000 comprises nearly two-thirds of all pilots in the United States. Visit and bookmark our Web site designed especially to serve the information needs of student pilots. All AOPA Flight Training members, including those with free six-month introductory memberships, have full access to AOPA's resources, including the members-only areas of AOPA Flight Training Online and AOPA Online.

Many of us have flown or will fly a Piper Archer. For student pilots, it's the low-wing equivalent of that flight school stalwart, the Cessna 172. Forgiving and dependable, the Archer is an airplane that doesn't always score big points for coolness. But we're about to change that.

AOPA's annual sweepstakes awards a completely refurbished, better-than-new airplane to a lucky winner. This year's project is the AOPA Get Your Glass Piper Archer. This is the Archer you may well know and love, but with some important differences. For one thing, no Archer you've flown has ever sported an Aspen Avionics EFD1000 Pro avionics display, because our sweepstakes aircraft is the first to be certified with one. This revolutionary system has transformed a 32-year-old airplane into one of the most capable light GA airplanes in the sky. But that's not all.

When it's delivered to its new owner in 2009, the Get Your Glass Archer will have a fantastic paint scheme; custom black leather upholstery that is designed not to retain heat; and a host of other stand-out upgrades.

Anyone with a paid AOPA membership is automatically entered in the annual sweepstakes. AOPA Flight Training readers with the free six-month introductory membership are not; see the official rules online (www.aopa.org/sweeps/officialrules.html). To be automatically entered in the sweepstakes, all you have to do is join AOPA as a paid member (www.aopa.org/join) or renew your membership before December 31. Doing so entitles you to all of the benefits that membership brings-and it could win you an airplane.
