The third quarter of 2008 came to a close with the airline industry adding 429 pilots in September, which brings the year-to-date total to 5,984, according to Atlanta-based AIR, Inc. (www.jet-jobs.com). Out of 92,348 active airline pilots, 3,937 were on furlough at the end of September; in addition 1,903 pilots have been laid off.
