Utah tax change a good deal for aviation

A proposed tax change before the Utah legislature would direct more of the state’s aviation-related revenue into the aeronautics fund. The amount of tax that pilots pay would not change under House Bill 365, but more of the money would be used to construct, improve, and maintain the state’s public-use airports. This also would allocate more funding to match state and federal grants for larger airport improvement projects. “Utah legislators are right on the mark. This bill increases airport improvement funding without increasing the tax burden on pilots,” said Greg Pecoraro, AOPA vice president of regional affairs. AOPA wrote the Utah House Revenue and Taxation Committee in support of the bill.
