Identifier confusion around JFK affects GPS systems

Garmin has discovered that the most recent database update for its GPS navigation systems includes two JFK waypoints—the VOR and an intersection. The glitch, which could lead a pilot to accidentally select the incorrect waypoint, will be corrected with the Jan. 17 database update, when a new identifier will be assigned to the intersection. In the meantime, pilots flying in the JFK area are urged to look carefully at the waypoint they have selected to ensure it is the VOR before entering it into their flight plans. The glitch is known to affect most Garmin navigation systems but may also affect those from other manufacturers.
