A new talk show, Flighttime Radio Show , based in Middleburg, Fla., focuses on the joy and adventure of general aviation flying in an effort to boost the pilot population.
The show, hosted by AOPA members Milford Shirley and Brian Kraut, debuted Jan. 5 and has had guests including an air traffic controller and balloonist. Shirley, an AOPA Project Pilot mentor, is working on his sport pilot flight instructor certificate and discussing that process on the air. Later, he plans to devote part of the weekly show to talking with student pilots about how easy and rewarding it is to learn to fly.
Like many pilots, Shirley has spent hours at the airport talking about flying and aircraft with his fellow aviators. The show draws from that favorite pastime of so many pilots by encouraging listeners to call in to discuss anything related to GA. So far, listeners across the United States and Australia, France, and Puerto Rico have contacted Shirley about the show.
Aviation enthusiasts can listen in from 9 to 10 a.m. Eastern on Saturday, Jan. 25, and then from 10 to 11 a.m. Eastern on Saturdays beginning Feb. 2. The show is broadcast online and in the Jacksonville area over WBOB 1320. Archives of previous shows are also available online.
