Airline hiring remained strong during October 2007, when 1,222 pilots signed on--a number down only slightly from September's record 1,360. If the current hiring pace continues, according to Atlanta-based AIR, Inc., 2007 will set a new record for pilot hiring, surpassing 2001's total of 12,766.
