ASN program pursues 100 percent coverage in VA

Virginia pilots and aviation officials are working together to make the state the first to have an AOPA Airport Support Network volunteer at every public-use airport.

At a “first to 100 percent event” held June 28 at the Virginia Aviation Museum in Richmond, AOPA staff were joined by Virginia Aviation Director Randy Burdette, other state aviation officials, and more than a dozen ASN volunteers.

“As a former ASN volunteer for Stafford Regional Airport himself, Randy Burdette understands how valuable this program can be to protecting and promoting airports and general aviation,” said Heidi Williams, AOPA senior director of airports.

During the meeting, participants learned about the value of aviation in Virginia, top issues affecting airports nationwide, and legislative challenges facing small airports as states look for new sources of revenue in a tight economy.

The event garnered four new volunteers for ASN program, bringing ASN representation to 48 of Virginia’s 66 public airports.

To find out if your airport has an ASN volunteer or to help Virginia achieve its 100-percent goal by nominating yourself or someone else as a volunteer, see the ASN home page.
