Bendix/King unveils GA handheld

AV80R handheldLooking for a handheld GPS navigator that you can use in the cockpit—and in a car at your destination? Honeywell’s Bendix/King launched its AV8OR series of portable avionics for GA pilots at Oshkosh.

The AV8OR handheld multifunction display provides aviation navigation, flight planning, checklists, and offers a link to XM weather data. It also serves as a car navigator, MP3 and movie player, picture viewer, and eBook player. Featuring a 4.3-inch diagonal touch screen, it’s available now at a suggested retail price of $749. Two portable cockpit information systems, the AV8OR Horizon 3D and AV8OR Vision 3D—based on former VistaNav products—will offer synthetic vision capabilities, said Dan Barks, Bendix/King’s director of general aviation aftermarket avionics.

The Horizon is a Class 1 electronic flight bag, while the Vision qualifies as a Class II EFB. Both feature touch screens and WAAS-enabled GPS receivers. They will display data from optional traffic sensors and datalink weather receivers, as well as instrument approach charts.
