AOPA helps members with medical issues

The AOPA medical certification staff stayed busy all day Thursday, assisting members with their pressing questions.

“I’ve had open heart surgery, can I ever get my medical back?” “What is the average turnaround time once the FAA receives my paperwork?”

One member, who received his FAA authorization letter and medical certificate the day he left for AirVenture, stopped by the AOPA tent to thank medical certification staff in person. “I couldn’t have done it without AOPA,” he said.

AOPA members were happy that they were able to converse one-on-one with medical certification staff and seek assistance with their individual issues.

Typical questions focused on lasik surgery, diabetes, and sleep apnea treatment.

The AOPA medical certification staff will be on for the duration of AirVenture. Also, be sure to visit the FAA staff from the Aerospace Medical Certification Division at AOPA Expo in San Jose, Calif., which runs from Nov. 6 through 8; they will be issuing medical authorizations to members.
