New bizjet deliveries speed up

Deliveries of new business jets surged 40.8 percent in the first quarter of 2008 and billings jumped 16.1 percent to a record $5.3 billion, the General Aviation Manufacturers Association said. Jet manufacturers delivered 297 new airframes in the first three months of 2008, compared to 211 in the same period last year.

SkyWest, ASA sign Bombardier maintenance deal

SkyWest Airlines and subsidiary Atlantic Southeast Airlines have signed long-term contracts with Bombardier Services Corp. (BSC) for maintenance on their Canadair Regional Jet fleets. BSC will perform C-checks and other heavy maintenance on SkyWest's 222 regional jets, as well as ASA's fleet of 200 airplanes.

Airlines slow down to save fuel

Southwest, JetBlue, and Northwest are among the airlines shaving about 10 knots off cruise speeds in the hopes of trimming� fuel use. The airlines are using new software that allows dispatchers to plan more efficient routes, altitudes, and speeds.
